The lake is full so makes it tough to fish. The bigger walleye seem to be it the trees and would take alot of tackle to catch. This past weekend we finally started to catch alot of little walley in some deeper water 15-20fow. Only one over 15 but its getting better. The water is still pretty dark in areas but that understanble with the amount thats in there

Bhangler thanks for the nice words, yes I do catch and release. When I am on the water camping I fry up a couple, the rest go back. Of course in a tournament that is not the case. I am very proud of three fishing clubs I belong to: High Plains Anglers, Black Hills Anglers and SD Walleye Assn for their effort to provide catch and release tournaments. Black Hills Anglers "measure tournaments" are by far the most successful at releasing fish without stressing them too much. See you on the water. Jim

Fishing has been slow on Ang - weather, likely a cause, and Jim, perhaps it is being fished out. But we all need to look at this - you're obviously a good angler, and you went out on a slow day and kept five - do you ever release fish? i'm a walleye eater like everyone else, but must we keep fish every time we go out?

Angostura Reservoir - Sunday, May 23, 2010 | |
Fished pretty hard on Saturday (not good weather at all following the front on Friday) - two small walleyes pitching jigs. Sunday the weather was much nicer, caught 5 keepers with the biggest 24" We tried lindy's, jigs with minnows and ended up with 1/2 crawler on a 1/2 oz Lindy with a 6' snell - plain hook which turned out to be the ticket. Caught the big one on a creek chub in 21 FOW. We fished mostly 15' to 25 FOW. But... overall I would say the fishing is either very slow yet due to ?? weather or Angie is being fished out slowly but surely.

I will be posting the results from the Black Hills Angler tournament held this past weekend, we had a blast, the club did a great job and the weather, well we had one good day anyway. Jim
The good news is, with the way the tourney is managed, measure tourney, we lost 1 fish the whole weenend, it was hooked deep and would have died anyway. |
