Angostura Reservoir - Saturday, August 29, 2009 | |
Went out on Saturday the 29th. Started at 9 am. Trolled cranks and caught two bass then anchored and was using bobbers with jigs or just plain hooks and worms. Caught alot of the sunfish or bluegills in two to four feet of water. While doing that caught 4 big bass large and small mouth. Then at the end of the day went to the tires by marina and caught 30 to 40 crappie kept 20. Three people fishing. No walleyes being caught. We used plastics instead of worms. When using worms we would only catch the sunfish.

Fished Angie Saturday, Sunday and Memorial day, the fishing was good, limited two out of three days. Tried somthing new on Monday which didn't work so well for us - spinners. The best bite was 15 FOW with plain hook and chartreuse bead, 1/2 crawler or minnows, nothing on leeches yet for us. Fished the flats, cabin area, horsehead area and south of island - I would say the Island was overall the best. Morning bite for sure. Jim

Picked up some decent crappie in flooded trees. Netted six that were 14-16". Caught them on a bead head leech pattern fished slow just above the brush. Found some nice 10-11" bluegills in shallow bays that were hitting a white bead head fly. Caught a ton of smallmouth but only one over 15". Talked to a few guys in boats who hammered the walleye with bottom bouncers.

Lots of boats at Angy today. Still managed to get my limit. The bite is getting better and saw a few people catching there fish. It should continue to get better. All my fish came on minnows. |

Walleye seem to be picking up a little, but overall still pretty slow. Lots of fishing pressure for the free fishing weekend. I counted 48 boats at one time all fishing one stretch of shore line. There are fish being caught, but I still wouldnt say the bite is "ON" . As far as baits being used, I think i saw about everything, and everyone seemed to be catching a fish here and there, but nobody was really doing any better than anyone else.

Another very poor day of fishing at angy. Beautiful evening though. Only thing we caught was 2 3-4lb carp. Fun to catch but disappointing to see whats on the other end. Lots of people fishing, and not seeing many people catching much of anything. I am going out again with a friend in the morning. Guess we'll see what that brings.

Two fish over 9lbs, 1 fish over 7lbs, and 5 fish over 6lbs. Only 5 teams managed to weigh the tournament limit of 5 fish. A total of 89 fish were caught and 88 released. Sunday was canceled by popular vote due to the weather. It was disappointing to have to cancel the tournament by one day, but I believe it was the right call. This was the first year we got caught with bad weather since we moved our tournament to the fourth weekend. Thanks to everyone that helped out and hopefully are next tournament will provide decent weather. Special Thank You! To the Walleye Unlimited crew, Nancy, Brenda, & Mike and our members, Kelly, Luke & Norm. Great Job! |
