Thinking about going out this weekend, If a guy is to walk out where do you reccomend going out from? I really don't feel like turning my truck into an anchor this weekend. I am also not real excited about walking out and carrying all the gear, haha I sure hope the fish will atleast cooperate, I am already getting excited to get the boat ready.

whitewood has everything from fatheads to 10 inch suckers, just for anyone looking for larger bait. i talked to the guy who did the bait yesterday and he said he also supplies to the rooster, so the rooster should have bigger stuff too.

Shiners for sure but no one has any west of RC to my knowledge so minnows will be the ticket. I guess you could check with the Rooster, Scheels or Cabela's for shiners or creek chubs.

Wow...Thanks for the great information. I will bring my tip-ups for sure. What should I use for bait on the tip-ups? Regular minnows, bigger minnows, shiners? Thanks again. Good Luck.

The ice should still be alright through this weekend, it was a solid 16" + on Sunday. There is not a lot of slush once you get on the ice but am sure the shore lines will begin to break up soon. I did not check by Gaden's or by Rocky Point but there were vehicles on the ice. I have not and would not drive a vehicle on the ice, use an ATV or snowmobile. Walleyes seem to be in 14 to 15 feet of water, best bite has been 5:30 to 10:30 pm on Tip-ups. Good Luck! Jim

Hello,
I am thinking about fishing Orman this weekend. Will somebody please keep me updated on the ice conditions throughout the week. I see it is 50 there today so hopefully that doesn't eat it up too much. I would really like to fish it this weekend. Also, are you guys thinking that 4 wheeler transportation will be non-existant due to the slush, ice conditions, and water being let in? Are there any areas that I should stay away from this time of the year? I have never fished orman in the winter so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help guys. Good Luck. |

Fishing was slow this weekend. A few small perch, a few small eyes. Ice was fine, used the ATV. Water is being let in so the edges will be getting bad soon. Boat ramp onto the ice was getting pretty crappy. Some nasty slush too. Should be a couple more weeks of foot travel easily with all the ice.

Is anyone catching black crappie in Orman? Went hunting 'eyes yesterday with not success. I was fishing from 6-12 FOW along the face and shallow by the sand bar off CCC point. Not even a nibble. Just can't find those rascals.

Help. Those pesky fish have eluded me for the last couple weeks. With only a couple weeks of ice left I am hoping some generous fisherman will send some pointers my way. How deep, which lures etc. I hear the fish may be moving north but I don't have a four wheeler or snowmobile so I'm on foot. Thanks

Fished Friday evening. Caught several small 'eyes, no perch. Small window of activity right at sundown as has been all winter. Daytime bite has been pretty tough for me, other than perch. Snow really went down on Friday, I am sure even more so on Saturday. Was surprised by all the folks driving on, ATV for me LOL! Warm all week, even though there is a lot of ice things will start to go downhill with all the sun during the long days. Hope to get a couple more weekends in before the ice gets too crappy. They have to start letting water in soon I'd guess.

Wondering how soon it will be until a truck falls through at Orman? Better be careful out there. Fished with a mass of trucks on Saturday, I guess the word got out on the spot. I lost three walleye on tip-ups, came home with zero.

Went out today from 730-430. Fished north of gadens on the flat in 35-45 fow. Ended up with a nice 20" walleye around 10am and a few small perch through out the day. Got the walleye on a tip up with a shiner.
