calling coyotes at night

I've found howling is almost neccassary when calling at night. It is a great locator. The first thing I do is howl and usually at night I get a response. Then I know they are there and a lot of times they come in quick. Be alert, last year we were sitting against a bank and one almost ran right over the top of us from behind.

Do you do any distress calling? What do you use for a gun and optics? How long do you stay at a spot?

I use a 22-250 Remington. I howl and listen for a howl back. Once I get a howl I pick my spot to sit and walk about 25yards from that where I place my johnny stewart electronic call. I've had a lot better luck with the electronic at night, not sure why. But it is also nice b/c you have hands free and can concentrate on keeping your eyes open.

I also use a cottontail distress tape at night. The howling tape doesn't seem to work to well, or I just don't knw hot to use it. I use Sceery howler.

usually try to get near creeks during night, seem to have good luck near them. it is a blast, nothing like a full moon night when you can see them pretty good. We do hunt the same areas but have the best luck if you can get near a tree filled creekbed.

I use a howler by Ed Sceery and it works great to locate them.
