Tried the dam again, this time using Little Cleo's and Krocodile spoons.  Still no lakers.  Caught some rainbows again on both spoons as well as on fathead minnows I threw out on a hook and bobber.  Not sure the reports of shallower lakers was correct, but still determined to catch one.

Tried fishing at the dam for lakers that I heard were still in the shallows.  Caught some decent rainbows, but no lakers.  Used bigger Syclops spoons and a deadstick with bigger fatheads on it.  Both techniques caught rainbows, but no lakers to speak of.  Rainbow trout bite is still running pretty good.

Fished along Veteran's Point trail during the cold and windy afternoon.  Minnows and a bobber weren't working for pannies.  Water is probably still a little cold, plus it was already a cold day.  Even snowed a little.  I switched to a gold Little Jakes and had pretty good success catching rainbows.  They averaged 11"-14".  On cloudy days, the gold Jake always seems to be a winner.

Tried fishing for lakers for the first time ever.  Fished off the point near the north marina in 30' to 70' of water with shiners on a dead stick and a jigging rod on a spoon.  Saw a few lines on the Bird screen once in a while and a nibble, but no fish were caught.  Had a guy fishing further off the point, but didn't see anything being pulled up.  Ice was popping pretty good,  but seemed to be in good shape.  Open water out in the middle of lake though and the coming warm weather won't help the lake's ice any.

Fished from shore in the bay of the Veteran's Point trail.  Water is way down due to the draining of the lake in preparation for Canyon Lake draining.  Lots of shoreline access.  Little bluegill activity, though rainbow bite was decent, but not much in terms of size.  Caught on a combination of hook and bobber with a worm or casting Northland buckshot rattle spoons, which was the more successful of the two applications.

Fished south boat dock for pike with golden shiners and only got 2 rainbows both about 18 inches.  Moved out to 80 feet and caught 2 lakers.  i seen a guy drive a pickup and an 18 foot camper (not an ice house) out on to the ice, get out and drill a hole, then drive 200 yards and set up camp, where he drilled his hole was 11 inches of ice and where he went to had about 7 or 8 inches no lie... I hope I dont read about them in the paper

Pretty boring day on the ice 4 flags 1 17 inch rainbow 2 small pike.  covered 12 feet to 60 feet marked several fish in 60 FOW but could not get them to bite anything.  2 groups next to us got skunked.  Jenny Gulch/Bear Gulch is where most of the fish are being caught

Fished a couple hundred yards in front of North Marina in 75 FOW on 5 inches of ice all day with golden shiners and the bite didn't turn on until after noon and lasted until 2 then it died off again.   Several Lakers caught and released all under the 24 inch mark. Had a whopper on until attempting to get it through the hole. Seemed like everyone around us had the same action.

Fished to the West of Jenny Gulch in the little bay over the hill.  Caught perch, bass, and too many sunfish...  Nonstop action, but no northern and no trout.  Great spot to take the kids out (if they can make the hike over the hill...), but nothing of any decent size that we landed.  Good luck.  Used Crappie rigs with crawlers.

Went to Pactola today and faced the rain early. Caught 6 rainbows all 12 to 16 inches and 2 perch (released all fish) caught all of the trout pulling #7 shad raps suspended in 50-65 FOW. Had a lot of fun and haven't had the trout bite that good in a while.
