two of us fished the west end and the ice conditions are not bad.  just over 12 inches of solid ice not the super hard ice from 2 weeks ago.  we were able to fish the center of the bay with no concerns.  the area was frozen hard when we got there and wasnt slushy when we left and 2.  we did manage to catch 30 nice perch between 9-11 inches and very few parisites.  3-4 days and it will be done.

Took the kids to Stockade (ages 4, 6, 8 and 11).  I spent the day baiting hooks and unhooking fish. I fished for about 10 minutes( and caught 6)!  We caught over 80 fish in 4 holes with all 6 of us in a 6 x 8 pop up shack.  Pandemonium!  We had a great time and most of the fish (60+) were 8-10 inches.  Red maggots in 15 fow.  Nothing on the tip ups.

was on the lake by 8 am, tried to find the crappies fished in 30 fow first, found a few almost on bottom could not get them to hit. moved to 25 fow and found some schools at 15 foot. tried alot of different things to get some action, and struck out for the day.Well one thing about the hills lakes this winter that is nice you can usually find safe ice conditions. Just hope the catchin would get better!

Grubby fish,  The Yellow grub (Clinostomum marginatum) is a very common fish parasite, and stockade has them.  They are harmless to humans when cooked, I’ve been eating them for 12 years with no problem  tell the wife they are fat deposits LOL.  I did email fish and game see their response below.  also here is more info for ya  http://www.vtfishandwildlife.com/library/Factsheets/Fisheries/Fish_health/Yellow_grub.pdf

These grub worms are commonly known as Yellow Grub. These parasites are one of a number that exist in our waters. They use an extensive group of hosts to complete thier life cycle: bird-->snail-->fish-->and the cycle is repeated. They are found in most of our west river reservoirs, but have been very prolific in Stockade, Bismark and Lakota within the Black Hills. They are not normally noticed until Fall and into Winter when perch are targeted for ice fishing. I believe this is also the time in their life stage when most are in the "worm" form. Below is an internet address for an informational page by the Michigan DNR. You can find more by doing an internet search for yellow grubs.

There is really no way to control this grub.  A big problem has been the movement of panfish (like yellow perch) around the Black Hills. Snails and panfish tend to inhabit similar areas often enough to keep the grub life cycle going. And anglers moving fish out of infested waters are moving the grub and snails as well. We've discussed introducing fish that focus on eating snails to reduce the number of snails, but with the other fish populations in Stockade, this would probably be to no avail and may cause other problems. If you have more questions about the grub let me know.

Took my wife and boys to Stockade this past Sunday to see what we could find.  It was still raining some when we launched but shortly after getting to our first spot on the lake, the skies started opening up.  We started in the shallow bay by the fort and were pulling in crappie and perch on nearly every cast.  The first successful color combo was a yellow jig head with a green and yellow 2" PowerBait twister tail grub.  Other successful colors were the same jighead with a white body, a yellow body, and a pumpkinseed body.  I had one of the largest bluegill I've ever seen on my line, but it shook off the hook as I was reaching to pull it out of the water.  On one of my casts with the yellow jig I caught a +5lb pike.  Also caught a little smallmouth of a yellow buzzbait.

Unfortunately, all the perch brought home had parasites in them.
